Our oldest, Nano, just mastered it, “The rabbit goes around the tree and down the hole.”Now that Nano’s in his sophomore year, our middle kid, Allie, just entered the AHS freshman scene. We now realize that tying ties was no big deal.
How does one navigate the plethora of choices in women’s fashion when she’s still trying to figure out who she is as a person? Her eyes are also on what everybody else is wearing. Wanting to fit in, yet desiring to remain true to herself.
AHS exhibition fashion guidelines can feel daunting on a variety of levels, especially in this tough economy and with our seemingly limited options in
Durango. Despite these challenges, our exhibition fashion code provides a great opportunity for our students to experience presenting in professional dress; a skill they’ll need as they as they move towards their university studies and the business world. In the mean time, they continue to represent AHS to the community of Durango.
So here’s an attempt at painting the appropriate exhibition fashion code picture specifically for the girls:
Ø Slacks: plain color, small pin stripe or other small print
Ø Skirts: knee length, plain color, small pin stripe or small print pencil type
Ø Shirts: long sleeved or ¾ length, collared
Ø Dark colored blazers, knit sweater sets
Ø Tailored, knee length sheath dresses
Ø Dark colored low healed pumps
Just in case you’re wondering, here’s what’s not appropriate:
Ø Strapless, sleeveless dresses, sundresses or mini skirts
Ø High healed strappy sandals or boots
Ø Tee shirts or jeans
In the interest of helping our families navigate these professional fashion waters, the PAC is in the process of creating our very own, “Maureen’s Closet”. Your students will have the luxury of picking n’ choosing and mixing n’ matching their attire for upcoming presentations. No charge. Just like checking out a book at the library. More details coming soon on our grand opening.
In the meantime, if you have any items that you would like to donate to “Maureen’s Closet” that students could use for upcoming presentations, please contact pac@animashighschool.com, and we will make arrangements to accept donations.
Sincerely,
Laurel Rodd
