Upcoming Student Exhibitions
Sophomore Spanish
The sophomores are gearing up for their first Spanish exposición - "Born NOT in the USA" on Wednesday and Thursday of this week. They have delved into another culture and worked diligently to master grammar and vocabulary to write side-by-side children's books. The first details a day in their lives in Durango, the second, a day in their hypothetical lives in Chile/Guatemala/Bolivia. The exhibition will take the form of a reading partnership with Del Alma, a group of minority students in an after school group at local elementary schools. Check out http://www.delalma.net/alma.aspx if you want to learn more about Del Alma.
While this exhibition is not an opportunity for you to see the Spanish students' work first-hand (we'll be sure to get pictures!), if you are the parent/sibling/friend of a sophomore, please help him/her be successful by having him/her practice reading to you EN ESPAÑOL! By the end of nextweek, you should also be able to listen to a sound file of each student reading his/her stories on his/her DP.
Junior Humanities
Jessica McCallum’s 11th grade Humanities classes will be exhibiting their Narrative History projects at the Durango Discovery Museum on December 7 from 5:30-7pm. The students have researched a specific moment, person, or event from American History and recreated that history in a narrative form of their choosing. Come experience their creative retelling of America’s stories.
Junior Math Analysis Exhibition
Cathy Eagen's Math Analysis students have created two and three-dimensional fractals and analyzed their properties using sequences and series. Their 3-D models will boggle your mind. Come visit with these juniors for an excursion in recursion at the Durango Discovery Museum on December 7from 5:30-7pm.

Please click on the Parent Survey link below, and take a few moments to reflect on your student's experience at AHS. We will also have paper copies available at AHS. We are hoping for 100% parental involvement-1 survey per family. Thanks for you time.

MATH SURVEY- WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Jennifer Snead's Pre-Calculus class is conducting a survey on consumer credit card debt. The survey is comparing Durango's credit card statistics to the national average. It would be greatly appreciated if you took a minute of your time to fill out this short, anonymous survey in order to assist in the collection of our data. Our goal is to collect at least 750 survey responses. The more surveys collected, the higher the accuracy of our findings.

POLS NEXT WEEK
AHS Students will be participating in POLs (presentations of Learning) next week on Wednesday and Thursday. Unique to AHS, POLs offer our students a chance to present their accomplishments and challenges to a panel of teachers, students, and community members. Students will offer evidence, share anecdotes and present their reflections on their work from semester one. Students are evaluated based upon our POL rubric, their Digital Portfolios, and their stand and deliver presentations speaking to their understandings and competence.
Students have been scheduled to participate in POLs either next Wednesday or Thursday here at campus, and should deliver their presentations in formal, professional dress. Students must attend school the full day of their presentation. The day they are not presenting, they should not come to school. If a student does not pass their presentation, they must return Friday to redo it. Students who pass their POLs on either Wednesday or Thursday do not have to attend AHS on Friday. Students cannot be promoted to second semester without successfully completing a POL. Questions? Ask your student. If you/they are still unsure of things, please contact your student's advisor.
In addition, we are requiring students to give their POL to parents as homework the night before their actual presentation. This gives parents an opportunity to see their student’s POLs, and will help students be that much more prepared.
- Rigorous academics, where all students are prepared for college success
