Scholarship from S&S Worldwide
Colorado charter school students, it's time to
sharpen your pencils (or charge up your laptops) and enter this year's Charter
Schools Essay Contest. Four lucky winners will receive a college scholarship
from S&S Worldwide. Deadline for essay
submissions is Friday, March 15.
This year's essay contest is monumental as it
coincides with the 20th anniversary of Colorado charter schools!
Winners will be honored during the Colorado Charter
Schools Rally at the State Capitol on April 11, 2013.
Grades 9-12 | Prize: $500 Scholarship
Topic: In 1993, a law called the Colorado Charter Schools Act was passed. This
legislation allowed for a new type of public school called charter schools to
open in our state. The legislation was sponsored by then Senator Bill Owens
(who went on to become Governor) and Representative Peggy Kerns. Write a letter
to former Governor Owens and former Representative Kerns letting them know what
your charter school has meant to you, thanking them for the legislation and
letting them know how you'd like to see charter schools evolve over the next 20
years. Be sure to personalize the letter with stories about your charter school
and how it has changed you for the better, and/or how it has prepared you for
college. (700-1000 words).
