Parent
Survey
The annual PAC Parent Survey is now live at the
link below. Our annual parent survey is one of the most important initiatives
we facilitate each year. Our programs of excellence are a direct result of
input from our community. Parent and student voices continue to shape our
school and it’s crucial that we hear from your family!
In addition to using survey data to assess our
staff and program’s efficacy and impact, AHS uses the feedback gathered through
this annual exercise to help us analyze future needs, better allocate
programmatic resources, plan for future students/grades, populate state
performance frameworks and report to our stake holders, philanthropic
foundations, grantors and donors on the safety and satisfaction ratings as
articulated by our families. Please complete your parent survey today:

PAC Update
The 2013 PAC Coffee Fundraiser is underway!
Students have an opportunity for coffee sales through February 1st.
Our goal is for each student to sell a minimum of 6 bags of coffee.
Students went home Friday with packets and instructions; all orders
are DUE Friday,
February 1. Some highlights to know:
-We are working with DESERT SUN, a local
coffee roaster, that provides ORGANIC, FAIR TRADE COFFEE.
-This coffee is extremely FRESH, as it will be
roasted the day before it is delivered to the students.
-Each bag is $12.
Checks should be payable to ANIMAS HIGH SCHOOL.
-Encourage your student to sell to neighbors,
work colleagues, and folks they see in the next week......like the dentist, soccer
coach, or music teacher. They can visit, call, or email potential buyers
or promote this fundraiser via social media.
-It would be helpful if parents checked the
totals at the end of the week, and made sure the money collected matches the
orders documented.
Procedure for Delivery:
Seniors and Juniors: Deliver
coffee on February 13, 2013.
Sophomores and Freshman: Deliver
coffee on February 20, 2013.

What’s with all
the A+s?
Last week, we were
singing the praises of our Ospreys and their scholastic performance semester
one. However, all those accolades come with one caveat. Animas High School’s
Office of the Registrar would like to make our students and their families
aware of an error on the recent, semester one grade reports. Specifically, a
sampling of students received A+s on their report cards rather than the
traditional A. Please know that Animas High School does not award A+s. The A+
was generated by the default grade scale programmed into our Student
Information System, Powerschool. Realize this error only impacted letter
grades; there were no errors in computing/reporting students’ numerical grades
or their GPAs. The Office of the Registrar has updated our system; reviewing
and correcting all student records and re-setting Powerschool so that the
system defaults to the correct AHS grade scale. If you have any questions or
concerns related to this error, please contact the AHS Registrar at Maureen.truax@animashighschool.com

Creating Positive Social Learning
Environments: Eliminating Bullying in School
The Essential 6 R’s of
Bully Proofing
Research shows that over 160,000 students
each day skip school because of peer cruelty. The National School Safety Center
tells us that school bullying is our most under-rated school problem.
Specific tools to help the bully, the bullied as well as bystanders will
be taught and dozens of no-cost examples to reduce the cycle of youth violence
are offered.
The social jungle is plain vicious these
days. Is it any wonder that bullying is among parents top concerns? But if any parent thinks they are powerless over their kid’s social
lives, they better think again. Bully prevention
skills can be taught, and this session will help you learn the essential skills
(such as dealing with teasing, handling peer pressure, resolving conflicts, and
confronting bullies) that all kids need not only here and now, but for the rest
of their lives. What’s more, you’ll learn exactly what to do
to help your child survive the social jungle, bounce back from rejection, avoid
bad friends, and find and make new friends. Based on Dr.
Borba’s best-selling book, Nobody Likes Me, Everybody Hates Me: The Top 25
Friendship Problems and How to Solve Them, this session is filled with
practical, research-based strategies you can use instantly use at home to boost
your child’s social competence. Participants will walk away with concrete tools
they can instantly use to help their child be less likely to be bullied, be a
bully or a passive bystander.

culled from a career of working with over one million parents and educators
worldwide.
Dr. Borba’s strategies to mobilize
student bystanders to reduce peer cruelty were featured on Dateline and NBC’s
Nightly News. She appeared as the bullying expert in the documentary, “Bullied
to Silence” and is on the advisory board for the film “BULLY.” Her proposal: “Ending
School Violence and Bullying” (SB1667) was signed into California law in 2002.
Her thirty-year career has been
devoted to developing a framework to strengthen children’s character and build
moral school climates. Her best-selling book, Building Moral Intelligence, and

Caring, and Peace-Making) are used in hundreds of schools and organizations
