Description: 10th grade Humanities will be holding its first exhibition on Tuesday, November 1. In this project, students will be exhibiting their projects for our Truth of War project. In this project, students were asked to address the question, "What is the truth of war for a soldier?"
Drawing upon their knowledge of WWI and WWII, and the novels All Quiet on the Western Front and Slaughterhouse Five, students have crafted essays that address this question, and havedeveloped projects in a form of their choosing that express the same perspective of their essay. We invite everyone to come see the projects and interact with our students.

Veterans Needed
Veterans from ALL WARS Still Needed!
Animas High School is still seeking veterans to participate in the Library of Congress Veteran’s History Project.
We have expanded our search to include veterans of all wars. This project can include combat veterans, support positions, and medical positions. Thanks to the responses we have already received, we are only are seeking 10 more veterans to participate in this project, which will be beginning in approximately one week. If possible, we would like to have veterans from the Durango area in order to facilitate face-to-face interviews, though if necessary we could also reach out to veterans outside our immediate community.
These experiences and stories are invaluable to students, who need more than just a textbook understanding of war, and out veterans' experiences. All veterans who participate will receive a copy oftheir finished interview and related documentation to keep for their familyhistory.
If you or someone you know might be interested in participating, please contact Lori Fisher via the Main Office- 970-247-2474 or email- lori.fisher@animashighschool.com
Professional Development Update
It was a very enriching day for staff at AHS last Friday. Teachers participated in video critiques, a staff seminar and project tuning exercises. Faculty audited instructional methods and provided each other feedback on the delivery and strength of their sample lessons. After a rich discussion as part of a Socratic dialogue on best practice, the faculty refined their upcoming projects and generated constructive feedback related to curriculum design.
AHS continues to be committed to the on-going growth and development of its faculty and staff. We encourage you to ask your student’s teachers, advisors and administrators to articulate what they’ve been working on this year and how they see those efforts manifesting in student impact and success. Additionally, Head of School Michael Ackerman shares his recent experience participating in Harvard University’s Inner Strength for School Leaders class this fall.
